John Sebastian is an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist best known as the founder of the Lovin’ Spoonful and his impromptu solo performance at the Woodstock Festival in 1969. While with the Lovin’ Spoonful, Sebastian scored a number of hits between 1965 and 1969 including “Daydream,” “Summer in the City” and “Do You Believe in Magic.” After embarking on a solo career, his 1975 self-penned hit, “Welcome Back,” became the theme for the perennial sitcom “Welcome Back Kotter.” He is also a master harmonica player and is featured on The Doors’ seminal recording “Roadhouse Blues.” Sebastian was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000 as a member of the Lovin' Spoonful.
